WORKSHOP – PIED PIPER

(JANUARY 13 AND 14, 2020)

“WHO DARES TO TEACH MUST NEVER CEASE TO LEARN.”

Professional development to support teachers is one of the greatest needs of the hour. It is important to scaffold what is expected of teachers as much as it is of students.  With this objective in mind, GDGPS Sector 48 conducted a professional development workshop for senior secondary teachers spread across 13 and 14 January 2020 in the Activity Studio and the Conference Hall respectively.

The workshop titled ‘Pied Piper’ was conducted by the principal, Ms Anuradha Handa. Interestingly, the name of the workshop was not revealed until the end. The aim was to develop twenty first century classroom skills in teachers.  After an innovative ice-breaking session, the Principal initiated the discussion by talking about the qualities of a good teacher. Subsequently teachers were divided into four groups in order to on brainstorm on ways to improve competence, collaboration, caliber, and time management in classrooms. In the first session teachers conferred on the various manifestations of the aspects of the four core skills

In the concluding session, cats dominated the ice breaking activity. Ms Sunita Pillai energized the entire group by her novel ideas. Participants were asked to write the name of a member of the group along with one quality they liked about that person. There was much laughter and excitement as the names and qualities were read out by the Principal. After this, the four groups made their presentations which were well received by all the members. The workshop concluded with the Principal urging each group to delve further into the core skill they had researched, and come up with ideas to strengthen that value among senior secondary teachers.
