WORKSHOP - LESSON PLANNING

(SEPTEMBER 26, 2019)

The Teacher Enrichment Program planned for the day catered to teachers teaching classes 5-12. Interestingly, the target age group was neither that of young children nor of adults. They are the transitioning teenagers or adolescents who need innovative ways of getting engaged into something productive, else they would definitely take the path which they shouldn't have.

The teachers were divided into groups of six and made to sit together. The session started with a video where a classroom setting was shown and the teacher was shown conducting a lecture on the ‘Detrimental effects of plastic’. As the video progressed the teachers were asked to do a SWOT Analysis – to note and observe the strengths and weaknesses of the classroom teaching. Each group deliberated upon what they liked best and what could have been done differently or improved upon.

Ms Ritesh Sharma, the Academic Coordinator, guided the staff about the eighteen key elements of lesson planning. This was an enriching presentation which talked at length about the key components and also allowed participation from the audience where teachers could correlate and share anecdotes from their day to day experience in classroom with the children.

The lesson plan was effectively introduced by various Science teachers who had planned interesting activities for the audience to engage in. This helped the teachers in acquiring fresh ideas on how to make more effective, fun and implementable through interesting activities.

Each group was then given 30 minutes to prepare a presentation based on the weaknesses observed in the video, and what actual ideas or strategies would the groups have used to make the lesson on saving environment and creating bags better. Each group presented videos, power point presentations, physical experiments, worksheets etc which could have enhanced the classroom teaching experience

The session was attended by Ms. Anuradha Handa, the school principal, Ms. Shalini Tandon, the Middle Wing Head-Mistress, Ms. Srishti Bajaj, the Primary Wing Head-Mistress and the Senior Coordinators, Dr Shunil Tripathi and Ms. Sarika Singh.

Overall, the day was fruitful for everyone who attended the workshop with each teacher gaining hands on experience and practical approach of make classroom teaching more engaging and participative.
