WORKSHOP- ENGLISH TEACHERS (JUNE 26 TO 28, 2019)

A three days workshop was conducted at G.D. Goenka, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi from June 24 to 26, 2019. The session on the first day was taken by Ms Ranjini Krishnaswamy on ‘Developing reading comprehension and creative writing’. She emphasized that while reading, the meaning should be given more importance rather than the form. She also laid stress upon textual reading to finish before the child’s patience ends. She talked about the various forms of poetry and encouraged everyone to write poetry.

The session on the next day was taken up by Ms Neena Bhasin on ‘Teaching of English Methodology and strategy’. She emphasized on assessment tools and how to create a rubric. She mentioned that one should be clear about the descriptive parameters, allocation of marks in the rubrics like 3 band, 5 band, 7 band etc.

The session on the last day was initiated by Ms Neera Chopra on ‘Future focussed learning’ which was extremely informative and lively. She emphasized on assessing students on lifelong learning rather than on what we want them to know. She talked about teaching the skills of collaboration, creativity, communication and critical thinking.
