THE MENTAL HEALTH CURRICULUM

A state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully and is able to make a contribution to his or her community is Mental Health.

Mental health is more than just the absence of disease. The resource person Ms. Mimansa Singh Tanwar, Clinical Psychologist, from Mental Health Department, Fortis Hospital elaborated the first step to Mental Health. It is designed to enable, to recognize, manage and support those, experiencing any of the mental health and development disorders. She spoke about Mental States under which, Mental Distress, Mental Health problem and Mental Illness was discussed. She also highlighted on various Mental disorders, like ADHD, Anxiety disorders, Specific phobias, Social phobias, Panic disorders, Agoraphobia, few major depressive disorders, eating disorders, schizophrenia etc .    

She went on and emphasized the role of the school in building:

·      A culture of openness about Mental Health

·      Make Mental Health Literacy a priority

·      Give importance to emotions

·      Prioritize a healthy, balanced lifestyle

·      Re-assuring individual and family about school’s support

The Workshop spoke about, early identification, prevention and intervention of any Mental Health issues at an early stage that can help transform, at risk children, into healthy and contributing adults of society when they grow up. The workshop was organized by Salwan Public School, Gurugram and was attended by school teachers and counselors from various other schools.

The workshop was fruitful and enriching.
