TEACHER’S INDUCTION WORKSHOP AT GDGPS, VASANT KUNJ

(MARCH 20 TO 22, 2024)

 

The objective of the three -day induction training conducted for the new teachers at G D Goenka School, Vasant Kunj from 21st to 23rd March 2023 was to allign the new teachers with the philosophy of G D Goenka group and the aim of visionary chairman Mr. Anjani Kumar Goenka who has taken a step for the improvement in education standards as per the demand of contemporary context by establishing mother branch G D Goenka School, Vasant Kunj in 1994. The training covered a range of topics, including pedagogical approaches, assessment techniques, evaluation, documentation methods, and use of ICT in education, inclusive classroom, classroom management, learning outcomes and counseling of the students.

 

The first day began with an introduction to the philosophy of G D Goenka group of schools by Ms. Bharti Sharma, Senior Director (Academic). Ms. Swati Mohan & Ms. Gurmanjot Nandwani, Senior Counselors have taken a session to empower the teachers as counselors. It included several parts e.g. observation of behavior of child, creating confidence, self-esteem into child by motivating and positive child friendly approach.  The session on Multiple Intelligence by Ms. Rajni Jauhari, Education Officer enabled us to understand various intelligence and skills attached to each one of them. Ms. Raksha Panjwani (HOD Computer), Ms. Anjali Raman has taken a session by making teachers aware with the tools of ICT that can make lesson plans more interesting and help teachers to improve the quality of content. Some selected applications e.g. Near pod, Adobe Express, Padlet functioning has been explained well with the help of projector. Dr. Bina Nangia, a senior counselor and special educator having an experience of more than 40 years elucidated the concept of diverse learners including ADHD, Inclusive classroom approach to inculcate the skills in each and every child equally. The teachers were taken on a school tour showing the classrooms, activity rooms and the library. The objective of the training was to provide the new employees with the knowledge and skills necessary to maintain accurate and up-to-date records, which are critical for the smooth functioning of the organization.

 

The second day of the training focused on a wide range of pedagogical methods, assessment and evaluation methods, techniques and subject wise annual plan. The trainers provided an overview of different evaluation methods, such as self-evaluation, peer evaluation, and external evaluation. Ms. Risha Malik has equipped teachers with different pedagogical methods and classroom management tips to ensure the holistic growth of a child. Ms. Alka Oberoi has taken a session to explain the different assessment and evaluation methods used in GD Goenka middle wing. Ms. Vidhi Sharma has taken a session on record maintenance including Attendance Register, Display boards, PTM, Almanac etc. Specific subject sessions were also taken by mother branch teachers to elucidate the activity based learning and pedagogical approaches to teach students of grade VI to VIII.  The subject-wise sessions by various instructors were helpful in the formation of the annual planning of delivering of the chapters in most interesting methods. They also discussed the importance of feedback in the evaluation process, and how it can be used to improve teaching and learning outcomes. The trainers provided practical tips for effective assessment and evaluation. They discussed the use of rubrics, checklists, grading systems and covered the importance of maintaining accurate records and how they can be used to provide objective and consistent evaluation of student learning.

 

The third day a specific session was taken by Ms. Neeta Rastogi, Research & Development (Curriculum) to provide teachers correct approach of creating learning outcomes in a productive manner. The importance of learning outcomes has been outlined and the design of lesson plan has been explained. The session helped the teachers to understand the application of Bloom’s Taxonomy in framing learning outcomes that can include all level of skills from lower to higher order thinking skills among students.

 

Overall, the induction training at G D Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj was a valuable experience for the new teachers. The training laid a solid foundation in effective teaching, assessment, and evaluation practices, which they can use to enhance the learning experience for their students. The new teachers appreciated the practical tips and strategies provided by the experts, and they felt more confident and prepared to start their teaching career journey in G D Goenka.
