TEACHER TRAINING SESSIONS – PHASE 2 FOR MIDDLE WING TEACHERS AT GDG VASANT KUNJ

(JUNE 19 TO 21, 2024)

The centrality of teachers in bringing reforms in education has long been recognised by various policy documents, as well as by the reports of various educational commissions and committees. While recognising the need to restore respect for teachers in society, the recently promulgated National Education Policy 2020 asserts that the teacher has to be brought to the centre of fundamental reforms in education. Thus, teachers are seen as the heart of the learning process.

Teacher training is a critical aspect of GDGPS Sector-4, Gurugram. It encompasses the development of teaching skills, subject knowledge, and the pedagogical methods required to effectively educate students. With the same objective to achieve, the teachers attended three days workshop from 19th June 2024-21st June 2024 at G D Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi for fostering effective teaching practices, improving student outcomes, and ensuring educators are well-prepared to meet the diverse needs of their students.

The first day of the session was on Navigating tomorrow: Key 21st Century skills. The speaker Ms Rajni Johri highlighted the ways to make learning visible and to look at varied options. She shared deep learning happens when teachers become learners of their own teaching and when students become their own teachers. The teachers enhance their learning about developing various skills among students. The facilitators from various branches of G D Goenka Schools enhanced their learning about incorporating open ended questions in their assessments.

The second day was a brainstorming session on ‘Project Based Learning’ by Mr Vishnu where teachers prepared a project on converting G D Goenka Vasant Kunj into an ‘Eco Campus’ The teachers were divided into groups and created their assigned tasks. The task gave them an opportunity to understand the key concepts of a PBL project, quality of coherence of design, depth and application of research, team collaboration and communication.

The third day was an informative session on the topic ‘Collaborative learning and reflective techniques’. The resource person Ms Prakriti Srivastava elaborated on the various active learning strategies and focussed on interdisciplinary approach. The second session was on ‘Content to Concept based learning' which was headed by Ms Yasmin Khan. She stressed to learn to think beyond the textbook. She shared various strategies to develop deeper understanding.

The interactive and enriching workshop was a food for thought for the teachers of G D Goenka Schools across the nation. All the participants were filled with a new zeal to implement their learning.
