SESSION – GROWING UP

The early Adolescence years are crucial for a child’s cognitive, emotional and social development. Adolescence is a tough time for parent and child alike. It is a time between childhood and maturity, between parental protection and personal responsibility, between life stage – managed by grownups and life privately held. Keeping this in mind, G D Goenka Sector 48, Gurgaon organized a Workshop on Growing Up for class VII students in the Conference Hall. The speaker for the same was Ms. Kamna Sarin, Consultant Clinical Psychologist from Fortis Mental Health Department, Fortis Hospital Gurgaon.

The resource person highlighted different aspects of growing up. She explained on wearing a cap of sensitivity, and be, comfortable with physical growth and various changes that happen during this period, in their thought process. Children undergo a period of transition feeling confused most of the time unaware of their emotional ups and down. She also emphasized on how children can manage, deal and cope with their sudden emotional changes.

She discussed on the following points and also asked questions in between and answered to various questions that were asked.

  • Speaking about the negative emotions to a trusted adult.

  • Share about bullying if experiencing.

  • Share about peer pressure.

  • Use social media wisely, keep asking, when in doubt.

  • Accept and be comfortable about the physical changes that happen, naturally.

  • Not to worry, too much about body image.

  • How to maintain healthy relation with peers.

  • When to seek an adult advice.

The session was an interactive one, the curious little minds asked questions and it was well answered by the resource person. It turned out to be an enriching and fruitful session.
