PROFESSIONAL LEARNING WORKSHOP – ACER
(MAY 06, 2021)
For all students to excel, teachers must learn about each child and connect with them. This is not just about finding out how they learn, but it is also finding out how much they learn. Keeping this thought in mind, an extensive professional learning workshop was conducted on May 6, 2021 by ACER; Australian Council for Educational Research for the efficient faculty of G.D Goenka Public School, Sector 48.The facilitator for the session Mr. Neelam Kumar Yadav, with more than 20 years of experience working with ACER, has been involved in a variety of mathematics assessment programmes. In addition, Mr. Neelam has worked as a guest lecturer, assessment expert, and a key resource person for prestigious projects. He holds a postgraduate degree in Mathematics from the University of Rajasthan. He has been a resource person in the NEQMAP Regional Workshop on Data Quality & Accuracy of large-scale Learning Assessment Programmes supported by UNESCO Bangkok. His contribution towards Assessment Data Analysis & Capacity Building of Government Officials in India and Nepal is commendable.
The workshop gave an insight about how ACER and IBT enable and empower the teachers to identify the gaps in students that are consistent over grades and years, and plan to overcome them. IBT is research put into practice using all methodologies that are available in international best practice of assessments using latest techniques. Further, the teachers were also acquainted with different types of reports too; Individual Student Report, School Report and Interactive Report followed by their functioning and advantages. Individual Student Report gives us the summary of performance by strand (number/ chance/ geometry etc.). School Report provides a detailed information sheet for each class including students responses for each and every question whereas through Interactive Reports not only teachers but the Coordinators and the Principal too get to know the key areas the students need to focus on. This two hour workshop gave an overview of all the reports and hence empowered the teachers to know their students in a better way.
