COMPETENCY BASED EDUCATION

G D Goenka Group organized a workshop on ‘Competency Based Education’ on November 23, 2021 through Zoom meeting. Around 150 teachers and Principals attended this workshop and participated in this workshop.

Ms. Neeta Rastogi, principal of a renowned Delhi School took this workshop. The workshop was organized to make the teachers understand the need of CBE in today’s scenario and also for an overall development of children. It focused that curriculum and pedagogy should be transformed to promote skill-based learning and minimize rote based learning. This would enable the children to think out of the box and enhance their critical and creative thinking skills.  

CBE clearly defines learning outcomes, flexi time frame to students to achieve learning outcomes at their own pace. It uses multiple pedagogies and classroom activities that forms the basis of learning.

Workshop also highlighted on the point that now-a-days learning objective has been replaced by learning outcome as earlier it was only teacher centric but now it is student centric. Teacher needs to plan any task in such a manner that the learning outcome is achieved and for that effective rubrics should be there i.e. all the parameters and criteria should be clearly defined so that students can also assess themselves after the completion of the task. Many points were supported by very good examples. The session was very interactive and even the participants also shared their own experiences. 

The Session was followed by a Q & A session. Overall, it was an enriching experience.it will surely help us to plan our lessons for the holistic development of children.
