CBSE CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME IN MATHEMATICS

Supporting the core tenants of Mathematics, the CBSE Capacity Building Workshop was conducted from 3th to 4th May 2024 at St Xavier High School, Sector 49, Gurugram. This engaging workshop, covering fourteen hours, comprised forty Mathematics facilitators from schools all over Gurgaon. The resource persons were eminent members of the CBSE, namely Ms Ishita Mukherjee and Ms Babita Dashrath Ingale.

 

Day one of the workshop was designed in a way to divide the facilitators into groups of four. The first session covered the common areas and errors in Mathematics done by the students of secondary school. Ms Ishita Mukherje laid emphasis on checking the prerequisite knowledge of the students before every chapter. Every group then presented different topics in Mathematics where students faced common errors. The group members were guided to find the correct remedial measure for the same. The session was made interactive with the incorporation of entertaining games/activities on different mathematical concepts. Paper cutting activities on different topics of Geometry added to another dimension of the workshop. The resource person elaborated at length about the relevance of AIL and how it should be incorporated in the classrooms.

 

Day two was all about competency based education. The nuances of NEP were discussed in detail. Emphasis on and discussion of Mathematical competencies was done, and with each of them, the attendees were presented with mathematical problems to solve. Post this invigorating exercise,  different Mathematics websites for students were explored to make the learning more enjoyable. The second part of the workshop was based on the assessments, blue prints and question paper designing. Ms Babita showed us the Standard and Basic question paper design for Grade 10. In the last session the facilitators were engaged to design the case based study questions with added elements of creativity and innovation. This workshop was a very informative and well organized workshop and aided in enhancing the skills required  in teaching Mathematics.
