BE A BUDDY, NOT A BULLY

A Session with UNESCO, New Delhi

The issue of school bullying – the most prevalent form of violence in schools, affects almost one in three learners, and impacts education and wellbeing outcomes requires immediate attention. Bullying has severe consequences in learners' lives, ranging from low self-esteem and depression, with many students avoiding school, achieving below their potential, or dropping out completely.

UNESCO commemorated International Day against violence and bullying (including cyber bullying) at school on 5th November 2020 under the theme ‘Together against Bullying in school’.  G D Goenka Public School Sector 48, Gurgaon joined hands with UNESCO, New Delhi to ensure safe and secure learning environment for all students.

Sessions were conducted for students of grades IX and X from November 11-13 with an aim to build global momentum to raise awareness of the issue. Students were made aware of the ways to address and eliminate violence in schools. Posters, video clips and resources to spread the message were shared with the students.

Students were encouraged to take a stand, report the incidents and to raise voice against such acts. Students openly discussed their experiences and thoughts on this issue and took a resolution to join hands in the direction of preventing violence and bullying in schools.
