(JANUARY 12, 2024)

Headmistress Ms. Harmeet Kaur led an insightful workshop focused on enhancing classroom observation skills, aimed at empowering educators to gather valuable insights into student learning and development. The workshop delved into the intricacies of observation, emphasizing its crucial role in assessing various aspects of student behavior, perception, attitudes, and learning styles.

Teachers were guided through the process of observation, which involves closely monitoring students to gain information and notice significant details. Ms. Kaur underscored the importance of observing not just what students know, but also what they don't know, recognizing that valuable insights can be gleaned from both observable and non-observable aspects of student learning.

The workshop explored the intent and purpose behind classroom observation, emphasizing its relevance in understanding student needs, evaluating the effectiveness of teaching methods, and informing instructional decisions. Participants were encouraged to reflect on the necessity of each observation activity, ensuring alignment with learning outcomes and the creation of a conducive learning environment.

Tools for making observations were thoroughly discussed, ranging from rubrics and anecdotal records to reflection sheets and checklists. Ms. Kaur highlighted the importance of using multiple assessment methods to capture the diverse range of student abilities and progress, while also acknowledging the limitations and potential biases associated with each tool.

In conclusion, the workshop facilitated by Ms. Harmeet Kaur served as a valuable platform for educators to enhance their observation skills and deepen their understanding of student learning. By incorporating effective observation techniques into their teaching practice, educators are better equipped to support student growth and create inclusive learning environments that cater to diverse needs and abilities.
