The Exploring EVS Workshop, led by Yasmin Khan on November 07, 2025, was conducted virtually for EVS teachers of Grades 3–5 teaching in G D Goenka Schools. The session aimed at standardizing lesson plans and enhancing learning outcomes.

The workshop highlighted the key objectives of EVS, focusing on child-centered and experiential learning. Teachers discussed how EVS helps students observe their surroundings, develop essential skills like discussion, observation, classification, and expression, and build environmental awareness. Major themes such as family and relations, shelter, food and clothing, and transport and communication were emphasized, encouraging teachers to link concepts to real-life experiences.

Some of the EVS activities suggested by Ms. Khan included:

  • Look outside, imagine, and draw in the EVS notebook.
  • Listen and draw a paragraph, translating what they hear into illustrations.
  • Create a story inspired by nature, fostering creativity and observation skills.
  • Drawing family trees, classifying foods, observing plants and animals, exploring transport, and making communication posters, along with simple conservation projects like saving water or planting trees.

The workshop highlighted key features and objectives of EVS, emphasizing child-centered, experiential learning that helps students explore their surroundings, build essential skills, and develop environmental awareness. Teachers discussed themes such as family and relations, shelter, food and clothing, and transport and communication, encouraging real-life connections through discussion, observation, and creative expression.
