YALE MUN A THREE WAY MODEL
(OCTOBER 01, 2024)
A two-hour virtual meet was conducted on 1st October 2024 to throw light upon the MUN structure, preparation of committees and their planning and the structure of MUN Coordination by Mr Rishi Jalan, Founder and CEO, Big Red Education. The meet aligned the attendees with the core meaning of MUN and its relevance to a student.
The resource person laid stress upon the defining of the structure of the MUN, based on the Committees and their vision. The protocols for the procedures to be followed during MUN Conference, for student participation and preparation for the MUN were thoroughly discussed and agreed upon. Audio-visual inputs supported the details of planning of the MUN conduction and structure. An overview of the key roles of the delegates, Chairs, Executive Board and International Press were reviewed. The resource person also explained the committee types and their focus (e.g. Crisis Committee, SPECPOL, COPUOS, WHO, etc.). Introduction to MUN jargons of motions, points of order, placards, etc.were reviewed and discussed as well. The core responsibilities of the School Coordinator were laid down. Tips for creating a conducive environment for MUN thus leading to the development in the school were brainstormed over.
Apart from these pointers, the MUN procedures and rules of debate, explanation of the Parliamentary procedure, general flow of an MUN session, formal and informal debate rules, yielding the floor, moderated and unmoderated caucus were also discussed. The appointment of Yale Ambassadors under the category of Ambassador Selection was also discussed in-depth. It was decided through the meeting to have selective students from the Vasant Kunj Branch and G D Goenka World School would be appointed as Yale Ambassadors and one Ambassador per ten students would be appointed to train and guide schools. Roles and responsibilities of the Ambassadors were drafted by the attendees. It was decided that they would serve as liaisons between the organizing team and participating schools and mentor participating schools by guiding students through the preparation process. It was aligned that collaboration with G D Goenka as convenors would be done to organize preliminary interaction rounds and to address and resolve queries from schools, motivating both students and faculty to participate. Their additional role would also be to encourage schools and students by managing initial queries and fostering enthusiasm for participation.
Rewards for the efforts of the Yale Ambassadors were also decided upon. They would receive a Letter of Appreciation for their efforts in motivating, guiding, and training students. The team of Ambassadors would also be inducing the initial interaction wherein they would engage with school heads and coordinators to create a pool of potential participants, helping to build a strong delegation that would receive targeted online training. This meeting was a fruitful one as many fundamental decisions and protocols were reviwed and aligned with the vision of the MUN.
