WELCOME SESSION FOR CLASSES X AND XII FOR THE NEW ACADEMIC SESSION
(March 17, 2026)
The two most crucial stages of a student’s senior school life are entering into classes X and XII, where students need extra guidance to gain confidence and overcome feelings that may make them feel overwhelmed about a new phase in life. For this, a ‘Welcome Session’ was held on 17th March, 2026, at GD Goenka School, Sector-48, to ensure a comfortable transition for the students of classes IX and XI into an important stage of their lives, along with setting the tone for the academic session 2026–27.
The session was headed by the school Principal, Ms. Anuradha Handa, and the Senior School Coordinator, Ms. Shikha Sharma. It was an engaging session where the honourable Principal began by discussing the future vision of students, after which she explained the two important quotients—IQ and EQ. These are the ‘Intelligence Quotient’ and ‘Emotional Quotient.’ While IQ was known by everybody, EQ was new to many. She shared how both IQ and EQ are equally important for the quotient of success of an individual and made this very interactive through rounds of question and answer.
Competency is the skill or ability learned to be applied in real-world situations - was shared next by the Principal. Competency is not just a word; it is what actually shapes the students into assets for the future. CBSE has been more focused on competency-based questions in board exams in recent years. With the aim of helping students become thorough with the new format, the Principal shared an initiative taken by the school: CBA—Competency-Based Assessment. These are weekly tests solely based on competency-based questions, which will help students attempt their exams with better efficiency in the upcoming board exams. It is truly a growth-oriented initiative.
Next, we had Mrs. Shikha Sharma, who guided the students about the Code of Conduct and the 75% attendance criteria. Despite all the skills we have, we can only apply them when we lead a disciplined life and are regular in what we do.
This session created a strong foundation for the students, preparing them for what lies ahead and helping them understand how to tackle upcoming challenges and difficulties to excel in whatever they choose to do.
