(DECEMBER 12, 2025)
A webinar on the topic The Power Of Geography was organised on December 12, 2025 by GD Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj. The session was conducted by Ms. Mala Aggarwal who shared valuable insights on how to make learning interesting for students.
The session provided detailed insight on chapter wise topics and how to teach them effectively in the classroom to make teaching and learning interesting. It emphasized that teachers should connect their content with the developments in geopolitical and socioeconomic areas. Ms. Mala suggested the use of innovative teaching strategies to move beyond rote learning, such as project-based learning, using low-cost teaching aids, fieldwork, and using engaging media like documentaries or newspaper articles.
Ms. Mala enriched the participants with the right way of doing map work and connecting the topic with the map. She suggested the use of colours to mark places on map. She gave examples to how to explain the concept related to basin and flow of rivers.
To keep the students engaged the teacher should keep asking questions based on concepts, teach through co relation and encourage discussions in the classroom.
For Interdisciplinary projects Ms. Mala guided the teachers to explain the importance of the project and rubric to the students. A word of caution to the teachers, that they should not just look at the creativity and beautiful presentation of an activity or map or a graph and give comments like ‘good’ or ‘excellent’ because many a times they give incorrect picture of the actual marking scheme.
She also provided good knowledge on how to motivate students by show casing their work and maintaining their happiness quotient.
Overall it was a very insightful and knowledgeable session. The workshop demonstrated that geography is a dynamic, scientific, and logical subject, crucial for understanding the complexities of our world and making informed decisions.
