SESSION: NAVIGATING CAREERS AND COLLEGE PATHWAYS FUTURES IN SCIENCE / HUMAINITIES / COMMERCE STREAM

The seventh IDM session was held on 21 January 2025 for grade XI. The session expert was Mr. Tarun Goswami & Ms. Sejal Chadha. The session on Futures in Science provided students with an in-depth understanding of the various career opportunities available in STEM fields. The expert speaker elaborated on the vast range of possibilities in disciplines such as Artificial Intelligence, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, and Space Research. The discussion covered academic pathways for undergraduate and postgraduate studies, offering insights into premier institutions in India and abroad. Emphasis was placed on the significance of research, technological advancements, and interdisciplinary approaches in science-related careers. The session also highlighted the importance of analytical thinking, problem-solving, and innovation in scientific fields. Students gained awareness of unconventional careers such as Data Science, Astrobiology, and Genetic Engineering, along with an understanding of the role that internships and research projects play in shaping a successful career. They also received clarity on college selection criteria, scholarships, and entrance exams for various STEM courses.

The other session was taken by an expert career counselor Mr. Jitin Chawla. This session aimed to provide students with a broad perspective on career options in Commerce and Humanities while emphasizing the evolving nature of these fields in the global economy. The expert speaker, with vast experience in business, law, and liberal arts, guided students through diverse career trajectories. The discussion delved into various professional opportunities, including Finance, Business Management, Economics, Law, International Relations, Media, and Psychology. The session provided detailed guidance on higher education pathways, including undergraduate degrees in India and abroad, as well as information on liberal arts education and specialized courses. The future of work was also explored, with a discussion on automation, AI-driven careers, and the dynamic job market in Commerce and Humanities. Additionally, the importance of critical thinking, communication skills, and adaptability was highlighted. Students were exposed to non-traditional careers like Behavioral Economics, Corporate Law, and Digital Marketing. They also received insights into competitive exams such as CLAT, CFA, and UPSC for Commerce and Humanities students, as well as an understanding of global education trends and the significance of experiential learning through internships and case studies.

Both sessions provided invaluable exposure to students, helping them make informed decisions about their academic and career paths. The interactive Q&A sessions allowed students to clarify doubts and gain practical knowledge about their respective fields. These expert-led discussions emphasized the importance of staying adaptable and continuously upgrading skills to thrive in the dynamic world of work. The sessions served as another significant step toward empowering students with the knowledge and confidence to pursue their desired careers while making informed educational choices.
