(MAY 24, 2024)
A virtual workshop titled ‘Enhancing Teaching Skills in Social Science’ was held on 24th May 2024, with the goal of improving the teaching and learning competencies of the faculty of the Social Science department. This engaging workshop was chaired by resource person Ms Mala.
With over thirty years of experience teaching in the field of education, she reiterated the pedagogical techniques that are appropriate for teaching the various branches of Social Science and aligned all the components with NEP in the modern context. The topic of discussion in the introduction revolved around helping students to apply their understanding of the subject to real-world situations by using current events. In order to have a clear understanding of how the syllabus would evolve throughout the year, a comprehensive guidance was provided with the Social Science Syllabus 2024-25 released by the CBSE, as the focal point.
Innovative approaches towards project-based learning and design thinking was done, along with a discussion of the interdisciplinary project that the CBSE has recommended as one of the multiple assessments for grades IX and X. To inculcate inquiry-based and research-based learning, a thorough discussion of the teaching pedagogies and criteria for multiple assessment techniques was actively discussed. It was made clear that experiential learning, art integrated work and honing of the digital skills are important for the 360 degree understanding of the concepts. Supporting the able usage of PowerPoints, videos, maps, and other novel pedagogical techniques in the regular teaching and learning process, the resource person offered helpful advice and creative ways to make the subject approachable and easy.
Overall the workshop was very informative and beneficial for the Social Science fraternity and the FAQ round towards the end was beneficial.
