DIWALI MELA BY UMEED FOUNDATION

Diwali is not just a festival of lights but also a time to illuminate the lives of others through acts of kindness and generosity. In keeping with this spirit, G D Goenka Public School, Sector 48, Gurugram, partnered with Umeed Foundation for the Umeed Diwali Mela—an event aimed at fostering social outreach and giving back to the community. The mela provided a platform for our students to actively participate in a meaningful cause, reinforcing the school’s belief that true education extends beyond academics, fostering compassion and responsibility.
As part of the initiative, the children of Umeed Foundation, a society committed to supporting those with developmental difficulties, crafted Diwali items and utility products. These were sold at stalls set up within the school premises, with the proceeds going directly to the Foundation. This hands-on engagement gave our students a unique opportunity to not only purchase these handmade products but also to interact with the cause on a personal level, helping them understand the significance of extending support to those less privileged.
The school's involvement goes beyond the mere facilitation of sales—it is a conscious effort to cultivate a sense of responsibility and social awareness in our students. By encouraging them to support the Umeed Foundation, the school is teaching its students the importance of community engagement and selfless giving, values that will remain with them long after the mela ends.
The Umeed Foundation, with its philosophy rooted in structured environments and specialised therapies, has been a beacon of hope for children with developmental challenges. Their work provides more than just education; it offers a space of acceptance, growth, and joy. This collaboration between the Foundation and our school is a testament to our shared vision of creating an inclusive, supportive society.
Through the Umeed Diwali Mela, the students of G D Goenka Public School demonstrated their willingness to be active contributors to positive change. Their enthusiasm for the initiative not only added to the success of the event but also reflected the school’s broader mission—shaping individuals who are ready to make a difference in the world.
