WORKSHOP-SANGEET FOR ALL

(APRIL 06, 2019)

Folk music is not so much a body of art as it is a process, an attitude, and a way of life; its distinguishing features lie not within the songs themselves, but in the relations of those songs to a folk culture. - Sam Hilton

At GDGPS, we believe in an overall development of the children. In our regular academic curriculum, equal emphasis is given to all activities and sports. All the activity teachers at GDGPS are well versed with evolving methods of imparting education.  Keeping that in mind, a workshop on “Teaching Music to Children” was organised for all the music teachers on April 06, 2019. The workshop was conducted by Saskia Ji.

The day long workshop was conducted over a span of four hours. Main emphasis of the workshop was India’s rich heritage folk music. Teachers were exposed to interesting methods to teach the various folk songs of India. Various activities were taught so that students get involve easily and gain knowledge of music and culture of different states. Siskiaji suggested to form a school choir that would practice outside of the regular MDAT classes. They also suggested that children with special needs be accompanied by a teacher whom they are comfortable with. This will calm them and they can learn better.

Overall, take away from the workshop was practical and informative. The workshop was well received by all participants who look forward to more such interactive sessions.
