PREPAREDNESS FOR CBSE EXAMINATION

(FEBRUARY 10, 2020)

The Central Board of Secondary Examinations organized a conference regarding preparedness for the upcoming board examinations for grades X and XII to be held from 15 February 2020 to 30 March 2020. The programme was broadcast as a webinar through a special link sent to schools by CBSE.  All PGTs and TGTs of G D Goenka Public School, Sector 48, Gurugram viewed the webinar in the Conference Hall of the school.

The Chairperson of CBSE, Ms Anita Karwal, commenced the conference by addressing the gathering. She mentioned the changes that had been brought in by the CBSE in the past two years. She hoped that the examinations would be conducted as smoothly as the one last year. While she was sympathetic towards the students writing the examinations as they were at a tender age, she was unrelenting about the 10 AM deadline for closing of examination centre gates. She emphasised the CBSE had adopted a ‘Zero Error’ policy and would ensure that all stakeholders followed all instructions. She mentioned that the evaluation process would start within ten days of the commencement of the examinations. She requested all sponsor schools to ensure proper hygiene, sanitation and drinking water for all students.

Ms Anita Karwal’s speech was followed by a presentation by Dr Sanyam Bhardwaj, the Controller of Examinations. He mentioned that 22,500 schools along with 7 lakh teachers were going to be part of this immense exercise. Dr Bhardwaj spoke at length about the responsibility of principals in the smooth conduct of fair examinations. Some of the matters touched upon inter alia were the duties of a centre superintendent, the ethical conduct of examinations and the opening of question paper packets. Looking at the fact that there were 5376 examination centres, CBSE has made the provision for a unique e-mail ID for every school. Dr Bhardwaj expressed his concern for the misuse of social media not just for leaking of confidential matter, but also to defame the CBSE. He assured everyone that each such matter would be tracked and the perpetrators would be punished. He presented detailed information about how the roll numbers are to be written and urged parents to be vigilant about the examination centre and traffic conditions so that all students could reach the centres on time. He spoke about encrypted QPs and mentioned the dates on which mock tests would be conducted. He explained details of the evaluation process and the persons responsible for evaluation at every level.

It was an immensely informative presentation wherein all essential points were touched upon and all major queries were addressed. In case schools had more queries, Dr Bhardwaj shared a number on which queries could be shared through Whatsapp.
