INSTRUCTIONAL TRAINING WORKSHOP

(AUGUST 22, 2019)

GDGPS believes in providing proper instructional training and timely guidance to its teachers regarding alterations and changes in the Evaluation and Assessment pattern especially those introduced by the CBSE. One such workshop was conducted by the heads – Ms. Shalini Tandon, the Head-Mistress, Ms. Ritesh Sharma, the Academic Coordinator, Dr Shunil Tripathi and Ms. Sarika Singh, the Senior Wing Coordinators to acquaint the teachers with the objective-based questions introduced by the CBSE in the Board classes this year. The purpose being to increase the objectivity of assessment and to improve the quality of evaluation.

To remove all doubts and ambiguities in the minds of the teachers, Ms. Ritesh shared complete and comprehensive details of the type of Objective questions to be added in the Question Papers -  MCQs, Fill in the gaps, Match the Columns, Correct the Sequence; One Word Answers, True or False Statements. She explained that one-markers should be intelligently and carefully chosen so that there is conceptual as well as HOTs testing.

Ms. Ritesh emphasized the multiple benefits of objective based questions – they are scoring, they are pin-pointed and definite carrying one answer; there is more objectivity in scoring, there is no room for subjectivity on the part of the evaluators;  it can be attempted faster; reduces lucky guesses and chance elimination and finally objective type test items discourage cramming and encourage thinking, observation and scrutiny.

Examples were shown to the teachers which helped them to clearly distinguish between a properly framed objective question and a vaguely written one which is open to different interpretation by different students.

To extend the benefit to the students and also to give them ample and thorough practice of attempting such objective-based questions, a proper cycle of revision tests has been drawn up which was shared with the teachers.

The teachers then sat with their department and co-teachers and spent productive time discussing the objective type questions that would rightly test what the students know, rather than expose the gaps in their learning.
