FOUNDATIONS OF COLLEGE COUNSELLING

A workshop  on ‘Foundations of College Counselling’ was organised by IC3 on July 15, 2020.  The key speakers were  Ms Amrita Gulati (Assistant Director - Global Education and Strategic Programs- Ashoka University), Ms Sapna Goel (Counsellor Mayo College),  Ms Sahivangi Panchal (Counsellor- Ahmedabad International School), Ms Nomita Mehra (Counsellor- The Shri Ram School) and Ms Ramya Modukuri (Counsellor- Manthan International School).

The speakers discussed the roles and responsibilities of counsellors towards all the stakeholders of an educational system - school, students, parents, teachers, management, universities as well as the community at large. The possibilities and advantages of creating a Career Counselling Cell in schools was also an important agenda. It would include creating a school profile, a counselling calendar, Standard Documents and Processes along with a Career Guidance Library and a suitable  system of disseminating information.

The speakers analysed different approaches towards external agencies as well as processes for arranging national and international college fairs. The idea of making the school a test centre for international examinations was also discussed, along with the creation of a college application platform.

The speakers shared some of the best practices for career counselling programmes in schools. The session was enriching and fruitful. In-depth insights into the school career counselling programme were shared by the experienced school counsellors.
