EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING IN VIRTUAL CLASSROOM

(JUNE 06, 2020)

Voyaging the unchartered waters of the current reality, moving ahead with the very thought of education system changing overnight from ACTUAL to VIRTUAL classroom. The shift to virtual mode of learning begins with consideration of how educators can play the role of caregivers and lesson creators while utilising their resources and experiences in sync with the Vision of Learning, making headway to the same we attended a webinar on Experiential Learning in Virtual Classroom organised by Heritage Experiential Learning school on 6th June, 2020.  Speakers were Steven Levy (Consultant, expeditionary learning Schools) and Ms. Prerna Mannan (Head- Middle program, Heritage)

Points covered:

1. Norms related to virtual class- we need to clearly mention the netiquettes expected from the netizens who is a learner.

2. Dharmic Principles- authenticity, inclusion, freedom to learn n grow, attentiveness, excellence and respect for what one is and what one can become.

3. Principles of learning- provide meaningful tasks, set most important learning targets, variety of ways to demonstrate learning, opportunity to receive feedback, share their work, make reflection a regular part of process.

4. Difference between real class n virtual class- sense of control in virtual class but when we add support to it adds up more meaning, virtual classes works on the mantra of Loose control n Tight support- whenever the learner is supported, he/ she enjoys learning n automatically comes in control of the educator.

5. Assessments- self assessment that aids to self-learning- Rubrics, checklist, end product/ performance, pause n think activities, look at the proof/ evidence, circle time and connect to criteria.

6. Stress upon group learning and ignite the interest by storytelling and all such activities.

7. Experts to be called to give hands on knowledge.

It was an enriching experience attending the webinar, indeed a great session that helped us learning further and enable our students cope and thrive.
