ENHANCING LIFE SKILLS - DECISION MAKING

(JUNE 09, 2020)

There is tremendous need for good decision makers in today's world where one should be able to make decisions quickly and responsibly. This is why it is so important to teach good decision making skills to students.

The workshop was conducted by Resource person Ms. Michelle Ganeshani from COE Ajmer. It focused on decision making as a life skill for students and covered the various topics related to it.  Firstly,  students should understand the difference between problem solving and decision making; here the former is preventive in nature and the latter only occurs when a problem has occurred. The discussion also revolved around the characteristics of a good decision maker such as : being a good listener,  having clear set of priorities,  having an open mind,  being flexible and willing to change and being realistic. Ms. Michelle,  the resource person also highlighted that values, experience and common sense greatly influence our decision making process.

She ended the workshop on emphasising that children should be taught not be afraid to make decisions as they might go wrong at times. Good decision making is an essential life skill.  When students improve their decision - making skills, they add value to their future jobs, families and communities.
