CBSE WORKSHOP – COMMON MISCONCEPTION IN SCIENCE (AUGUST 27, 2020)

A workshop was organized by CBSE on the topic Common misconception in Science on August 27, 2020. The resource person was Ms. Vandana Banga from CBSE. Ms. Sonia Bakshi and Ms. Pavita attended the workshop. The objectives of workshop was to make the teachers understand-

·       What is misconception

·       How do misconception arise?

·       How to deal with misconception amongst children

The resource person discussed about the different types of misconception- Preconceived notions, Nonscientific beliefs, Conceptual misunderstandings, Vernacular misconceptions, Factual misconceptions and suggested ways to deal with these misconceptions- By experiments & demonstrations, Culture of thinking & questioning, Innovation & inquiry, Freedom of choice & voice, Connect with daily life examples, Critical thinking, creativity & collaboration.

Some misconception in science was discussed like the following:

·       Rainbow is circular because earth is round

·       Electrons carry energy in an electric current

·       Any two equal & opposite forces form actions & reaction pair.

·       Heavier objects falls faster.

·       More wattage more brightness.

·       Mass & weight

By the end of the workshop, the teachers were well informed in Science in daily life, Ethics & attitude, Skills & process, Knowledge understanding & application, Science & the environment, and Science in society.
