Ms. Ujjala Campbell and Ms. Jyotn Prinja, English faculty members teaching Classes XI-XII represented GDGPS in a high-profile workshop organized by CBSE CoE-Delhi (East).Ms. Ruchi Sengar, an experienced academician was the resource person.  The session began with most attendee teachers articulating their expectations from the session and their queries  regarding the new paper pattern and revisions in the syllabus.

At the outset, Ms.  Ruchi emphasized the competencies that CBSE intends to develop through Reading Comprehension, Creative Writing Skills and Literature particularly conceptual understanding, decoding, literary convention, inference, creativity with fluency. DOK -4 (Depth of Knowledge) has replaced Bloom’s Taxonomy. The purpose of building competencies in English anticipates a progression from Level I to Level 4 (Strategic Thinking). The MCQ’s in the Reading section would now be designed to test inference, interpretation and evaluation of the information in the passages. The fresh add-on of case study based passages and the tips of answering them were discussed threadbare through sample extracts.

The second part of the workshop was related to discussing the competencies to be developed and then tested through the Literature section. MCQ’s in the prose to test comprehension, appreciation and inference were discussed. Special focus was given to the stand alone Multiple Choice Questions and how they need to be designed to elicit analytical and evaluative responses. Questions relating to the literary portion need to cite incidents and themes for the students to draw inferences.

Ms. Ruchi shared the tentative date of another important upcoming session on Case based passages. The session concluded with an insightful QA round.
